Life is full of change. Some of us manage change well, others feel they need more time to deal with a sudden change. All of us at some time can recall a time when we have struggled incredibly with a change that was 'foisted' upon us. Whether it be a change in the workplace or at home, there are days were we can often feel distressed by the lack of control over change. This focus on needing to be in control can often lead to difficulties in adjusting to changes or transitions, that we have no real control over.
It is important to acknowledge that our current state, can influence how we process and ultimately manage change. Getting enough sleep, maintaining access to our supportive social connections, making healthy eating choices, and the impact of our 'mindset' all influence how we absorb and accept change that ultimately we have little or no control over. Keeping a daily focus on positive well-being practices can be a proactive and preventative way of preparing for the ongoing change that is expected and in our lives. For example, trying to exercise gently for 30 minutes each day or seek a quiet moment to engage in mindfulness meditation can be a helpful way of using well-being routines to support our sense of ownership over change and its impact on our lives. If you feel like you are not dealing well with change and its impact, try beginning a few helpful self care routines such as, taking time out to relax or engage with hobbies, call a friend to arrange a coffee date or adjust your thinking to accept that there are some changes that are simply 'out of your control'.
